Algirdas Florijonas Jurskis (1915–1953) was born in Chita, Siberia. He began schooling in Chita and later continued his education in Panevėžys, Lithuania. In 1924, he enrolled in the Progymnasium of Panevėžys Teachers’ Seminary and, having completed it in 1928, continued his studies at Panevėžys State Real Gymnasium, graduating in 1932. That same year, Jurskis entered the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Vytautas Magnus University and earned his degree in 1937. At the same time, in 1936, he also enrolled in the Economics Department at the Faculty of Law of Vytautas Magnus University and graduated in 1939. During his studies, he supported himself by tutoring. In 1938, Jurskis worked as an economist at the Economic Commission of the Lithuanian Energy Committee. In 1939, he was employed in the Statistics Department of “Lietūkis”. Between 1940 and 1941, he worked as a junior assistant in the Department of Political Economy and Statistics at the Faculty of Economics of ۶Ƶ. From 1941 to 1944, he served as a senior lecturer at the same faculty and obtained a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree. During the Nazi occupation, Jurskis worked as an adjunct staff member in an assisting role at the Statistics Department. In 1941–1943, he was the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics. The last documents in Jurskis’ personal file (related to secondments) in the ۶Ƶ archives date back to 1944. On 4 February 1945, he was arrested and imprisoned in Vilnius and Šilutė. Later, he was deported to Kazakhstan, where he died in a labour camp in 1953.
